Greens hold Shipley again

The Green Party has won again in Shipley, the Bradford Metropolitan District Council ward that has been held by the Greens since 2000. Cllr Kevin Warnes, first elected in 2004, was re-elected on 5th May with a very solid majority.

Kevin says, "I am very grateful to the 2,200 plus people who voted for the Green Party and the many local members and activists who helped to make our win possible. It was a very positive campaign in which we talked about our achievements and what we want to do for Shipley in the future. I am very pleased to be able to represent all the people of Shipley on Bradford Council for another four years.

Please vote to KEEP SHIPLEY GREEN on 5th May

Kevin Warnes

Councillor Kevin Warnes (pictured above) is the Green Party's election candidate for Shipley on 5th May. He lives in Shipley with his partner, and their two children attend a local primary school. He has represented Shipley on Bradford Council for the past seven years.

Kevin and his Green colleagues, Martin Love and Hawarun Hussain, are a dedicated, hard-working team of ward councillors. They are honest, trusted community representatives with twenty three years of experience serving Shipley between them.

Together, they make sure that the voices of local people in Shipley are properly listened to when decisions are being made.

Kevin says, "I believe that Shipley needs good, accountable Green councillors who keep in touch with local residents and community groups all year round. So please vote Green if you want councillors who live in your ward and know what is going on in your neighbourhood. We have also shown that we have the best answers to the challenges we face here in Shipley and across Bradford District as a whole. Martin, Hawarun and I thank you for your support for the Greens since David Ford was first elected here as a Green councillor eleven years ago. We hope that you will help us continue our positive work on behalf of local residents in the future."

Record Green vote in Worth Valley

Bob Swindells

Bob Swindells, award-winning author and peace activist (pictured above) won an unprecedented 11% share of the vote in the recent Worth Valley By-Election. This is the vacant Council seat formerly held by Kris Hopkins, and the voting took place on Thursday 25th November.

The Green Party finished ahead of the Liberal Democrats, with a share of 11.2% of the vote that is up from the 7.5% achieved in 2008. Bob says that he is "delighted with the result", which he felt reflects his view that the Green Party "is the best party for local government and the party that will do the most to change the thoughtless way we abuse our planet".
